Horizon Scanning for Impact: The Future Resources Way

As we celebrate the successful first official Purpose Scanning Workshop—followed by an amazing pilot program—we are excited to share with our community that the first INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH EDITION of our workshop will happen start this December 4th, and enrollment is now live!
If you haven’t heard about the Purpose Scanning Workshop by Future Resources yet, it is a proactive introduction to Horizon Scanning, the foresight practice of identifying weak signals and emerging trends, a.k.a. the foundation of foresight research.
Unlike conventional approaches, our methodology integrates a plural and decolonial perspective, rooted in the Global South and informed by real-world contexts. This means each participant will leave the experience not only with the knowledge required to conduct horizon scanning on their own—including clustering and sensemaking—but they will also learn to scan for worldviews and perspectives that differ from their own. The result is a truly expansive learning experience beyond one’s bubble, which has always been at the core of our mission here at Future Resources.
Another key difference from other traditional courses and workshops is our practical approach. This is not just a masterclass, a series of pre-recorded videos, or another boring lecture, but a live, online, hands-on opportunity to effectively learn how to do Horizon Scanning with a qualified foresight professional: Victória Oliveira, our Chief Operating Officer, whose bylines include Radar, Protein, Space Doctors, ALAF, and more.
Spanning a total of 11 hours (December 4th, 11th, and 18th), with 7 hours of synchronous meetings and 4 hours of asynchronous activities, participants learn how to identify and interpret early signals of change, categorize and connect patterns across fields, transform insights into actionable strategic directions, and collaboratively produce a trend report.
We have also created and curated 20+ learning materials to help you deepen your studies, including a comprehensive guide to developing your own foresight portfolio, a key asset for demonstrating your approach, thinking process, and overall capability to work with futures in a clear and compelling way for clients, employers, and collaborators.
Why It Matters
The Purpose Scanning Workshop created by Future Resources was carefully designed to teach the Horizon Scanning method alongside other essential strategic foresight tools, within a framework that encourages critical and inclusive thinking about the futures we are collectively building.
By combining decolonial foresight with collective intelligence, the workshop redefines how we sense and respond to transformation, evolving from passive observers to active shapers of desirable futures.
Throughout the program, participants collaboratively produce a collective Trend Report, designed to be shared with an international audience. This experience not only strengthens futures literacy and cross-cultural collaboration while providing participants with a globally recognized output that demonstrates their ability to identify emerging signals and articulate strategic insights within an international foresight community.
